Apple to add Reference Image mode to iPhone 18 Pro for photo authenticity

Apple is introducing a feature called Reference Image that aims to certify that a photo was captured by the device's camera rather than generated or altered by AI. Arriving with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, it uses the new camera sensor to cryptographically mark image data at capture time. The company has not detailed how verification would work for viewers or third-party apps.
