arXiv Paper Proposes Consent and Compensation Protocol for AI Agent Web Access
A new arXiv paper argues that the long-standing exchange in which websites allowed crawlers in return for referral traffic has eroded, as automated clients now account for the majority of requests and data collection for training dominates. The authors put forward a protocol intended to let site owners grant or withhold consent for agentic access and receive compensation when their content is used. The work is posted as an arXiv preprint and has not been peer reviewed.
